Resize your photo and signature for exam application forms

Make the photograph, signature and thumb impression an exam form asks for: a JPEG inside the file size range, at the right size. The rules for NEET, JEE Main, SSC, IBPS, UPSC and UGC NET are read from each notice and shown with its date.

JPG, PNG or WebP. A phone photo is fine.

It is cropped to the shape the form uses and saved as a JPEG of 10–200 KB.

How to resize your photo and signature for exam application forms

  1. 1

Choose the exam and the file

Pick your exam, then whether you are making the photograph, the signature, a thumb impression or a handwritten declaration. The size range from that exam’s own notice is shown straight away.

  2. 2

Add your picture and frame it

A phone photo is fine. For a photograph, move it until your face sits in the middle. For a signature, a photo of the ink on white paper is enough: it is cropped to the ink and the paper is whitened.

  3. 3

    Download the JPEG

The file is checked against the range before you can download it, and the page shows its size, its pixels and where the rule comes from.

Frequently asked questions

Why are the sizes different for each exam?

Each exam body sets its own rules, and the same body can change them from one exam to the next. The National Testing Agency asks for a 10 to 100 KB signature in the NEET (UG) 2026 and JEE (Main) 2026 bulletins, but asked for 4 to 30 KB in the UGC NET June 2025 bulletin. That is why every size here is tied to a named document.

Where do the numbers come from?

Each was read in the exam body’s own notice or guidelines, and the page names the document, its date and the day it was read. If a document could not be read, that exam is not listed. Rules change between cycles, so open the notice for the year you are applying in.

Why do forms set a minimum file size?

Some systems reject a picture that is too small to be legible. A plain signature on white paper can compress to a few KB, below a 10 KB minimum. The tool makes the picture larger first, which raises the size. If that is not enough it adds empty data to the file, which every viewer ignores, and the page tells you when it has done so. The picture itself is not altered.

The notice gives no pixel size. Why does the tool pick one?

A file has to have some size in pixels. Where a notice names none, the tool uses a standard proportion (passport style for a photograph, three to one for a signature) and may enlarge it to reach the minimum file size. Where the notice names a size, as IBPS does, the tool uses it exactly.

Is a KB 1000 or 1024 bytes?

Forms differ. The tool keeps every file at no more than the maximum counted as 1000 bytes to the KB and at least the minimum counted as 1024, so it passes under either way of counting.

Does SSC need a photograph file?

In the SSC CGL 2026 notice, no: the application takes the photograph through the camera while you fill in the form, and only the signature is uploaded.

My exam is not listed.

Use Photo for a form, where you type the size and the file limit your form shows.
