Your files

Most tools on CrispFile run inside your own web browser. When you open an image or a PDF in one of those, it is read directly from your device into the page and processed there. It is never transmitted to us, never stored on a server, and never seen by any person. When you close or refresh the tab, it is gone.

Some jobs cannot be done well in a browser, and those need to receive your file in order to do the work. Nine features work that way today, and they are the only ones:

• Document Converter — converting between PDF and Word, Excel or PowerPoint. Markdown files dropped here are converted the same way.
• Video Tools — compressing, trimming, or extracting the audio from a video. The Discord Video Compressor and the Twitch Animated Emote Maker, which turn a video into a smaller video or a GIF, work the same way.
• Image and PDF to Text — reading the words out of a scan or photo.
• Image Upscaler — enlarging a photo without it going blurry.
• Background Remover — cutting the subject out of a photo. If that feature is unavailable the tool falls back to doing the work in your browser, and nothing is sent.
• Photo for a Form, but only when you press “Make the background white”. The photo is sent at a reduced size for the background to be removed and the result comes straight back; resizing, framing and compressing still happen in your browser.
• Compress PDF, but only when you tick “Keep the text selectable”. The default option runs in your browser as before.
• Compress PDF for Etsy — shrinking a large PDF. Unlike the general Compress PDF tool, this one always works this way.
• PDF Flattener — turning the fields of a filled-in PDF form into fixed text on the page.

In every one of those the file is processed, returned, and deleted as soon as the job finishes — on the failure path as well as the successful one. Nothing is kept afterwards, nothing is used for any other purpose, no human looks at it, and filenames and file contents are never written to our logs. The machines doing this work have no route to the internet and no permanent storage.

Every other tool on the site runs entirely in your browser. This list is updated before any new server-side feature goes live, not after.

The background remover model

If the background remover ever has to fall back to working in your browser, the first time it does so your browser downloads an open-source AI model file to run on your device. That download requests a file from a public content delivery network, exactly like loading an image on any website. Your photo is not part of that request.

Cookies and analytics

CrispFile sets no cookies and uses no third-party analytics. There is nothing stored on your device, no identifier follows you between visits, and there is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

We do keep simple counters on our own server: how many times each tool was started, finished or downloaded, and which site a visit arrived from. These are totals only. Nothing links them to you, to a session, or to each other, and we do not record IP addresses, filenames or anything derived from a file.

We also see the anonymous, aggregated reports Google Search Console provides about how the site appears in search results. Those come from Google’s own data about searches, not from anything placed on your device by us.

Contact messages

When you submit the contact form, your name, email address, subject and message are sent securely through our server and Hostinger email service to the CrispFile mailbox. We use this information only to read and reply to your request. Do not include passwords, private documents or sensitive file contents.

Advertising

This site carries no advertising today and sets no advertising cookies. If that ever changes, a consent panel and an updated version of this policy will come first, not afterwards. Ads would never have access to the files you open in our tools.
