Frequently asked questions

How good is PDF to Word, honestly?

Every word comes across and the page looks like the original, but each line arrives in its own text box rather than as flowing paragraphs. That is fine for lifting text out or making small edits, and awkward if you want to retype a paragraph and have the rest reflow. This is a limit of what a PDF stores — it records where text sits on the page, not how it flows — and no free tool genuinely does better. Ones that claim to usually produce the same thing without mentioning it.

How good is Word or Excel to PDF?

Very good, and this is the direction worth using. The document is laid out the way it would print, with the metric-compatible versions of Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New installed, so line breaks land where you expect rather than reflowing. Unusual fonts, macros and tracked changes are the usual sources of difference.

Why does it sometimes take a while?

Conversions run one at a time on a shared machine, because each one is genuinely heavy. If someone else is mid-conversion, yours waits. A large presentation can also simply take a minute on its own.

Is there a size limit?

Fifty megabytes. That comfortably covers documents; it is presentations packed with high-resolution images that tend to exceed it. Compressing the images before converting usually brings it well under.
