Why do I need both a size in pixels and a size in KB?
Because most forms ask for both, and satisfying one usually breaks the other. Resize to the right dimensions and the file is often still too large; compress until it fits and the dimensions may no longer match. This tool solves them together — it resizes to your exact pixel size, then finds the highest quality that still lands under your KB limit.
My form rejected the photo even though the size was right. Why?
Check the requirements again for anything beyond dimensions and file size: a specific format (usually JPG), a plain background colour, a minimum face height within the frame, or a rule about glasses and head coverings. Those are content requirements this tool cannot verify — it guarantees the file specification, not that the photograph itself is acceptable.
Are the presets the official requirements?
No, and they are deliberately editable. They are common starting points, but requirements differ between issuing countries and between portals within the same country, and they change. Always copy the exact numbers from the form you are filling in. A wrong number here costs you a rejected application, so the form is the authority, not us.
The result is still over my limit. What now?
Usually the dimensions are simply too large for that limit — a 1000×1000 photo cannot be squeezed into 20KB without becoming unusable. Re-read the form to confirm it really wants a photo that big. Otherwise, a photo with a plain background compresses far better than a busy one, and most ID photo rules require a plain background anyway.
Why is the output always JPG?
JPEG is the only common format whose quality can be tuned to hit an exact file size, and it is what nearly every form expects. PNG compresses losslessly, so it cannot be dialled down to a specific KB target. If your form explicitly requires PNG, use the image resizer and then the format converter.
