What the December 2026 bulletin asks for
These figures are from Section A, Instructions for filling the Online Application Form, Step 2 of the UGC-NET December 2026 Information Bulletin, published by the National Testing Agency on 8 October 2026. Online registration runs from 8 to 28 October 2026. Read on 20 October 2026.
| File | Size | Other rule |
|---|---|---|
| Photograph | 10–200 KB | Recent, colour or black and white, 80% of the face visible (without a mask) including ears, white background |
| Signature | 10–50 KB | None stated alongside the size |
The signature range changed again
The UGC NET June 2025 bulletin asked for a signature of 4 to 30 KB. The December 2026 bulletin asks for 10 to 50 KB. A signature made to the old limits can now be too small, and a file made for NEET or JEE (Main) 2026, which allow up to 100 KB, can be too large. The ranges overlap only between 10 and 30 KB, so if you want one file that suits all of them, that is the window, but the tool makes the right one for the exam you pick.
| Bulletin | Signature range |
|---|---|
| UGC NET December 2026 | 10–50 KB |
| UGC NET June 2025 | 4–30 KB |
| NEET (UG) 2026 | 10–100 KB |
| JEE (Main) 2026 | 10–100 KB |
| CUET (UG) 2026 | 10–50 KB |
Photograph and lighting
The bulletin says candidates should ensure there is a light-coloured background with proper lighting and that 80% of the face is visible. Use a recent picture taken against a white wall, with your ears showing and no mask. The bulletin also says to bring one passport-size photograph, the same as the one uploaded, to paste on the examination day, so keep a printed copy of the same picture.
Step by step
Choose UGC NET (December 2026) and Photograph, add your picture, frame it so your face fills the picture, and download a file between 10 and 200 KB. Then choose Signature, add a photo of your signature on white paper, and download a file between 10 and 50 KB. Applications close on 28 October 2026, so do not leave this to the last day.
