Photo and signature size for every exam, side by side

Every exam sets its own file sizes, and the same agency can change them from one exam to the next. This page puts the ones read from the official notices next to each other, with the document and date for each, and a resizer that makes the file for any of them.

What do you need to upload?

⬆️

JPG, PNG or WebP. A phone photo is fine.

It is cropped to the shape the form uses and saved as a JPEG of 10–200 KB.

The sizes, read from each notice

Each row was read in the exam body’s own document. The latest reading was on 20 October 2026. Open the notice for the exam you are applying to before you upload, because these change between cycles.

Why the National Testing Agency’s exams do not match each other

The same agency sets four different signature ranges across recent bulletins: 10 to 100 KB for NEET (UG) 2026 and JEE (Main) 2026, 10 to 50 KB for CUET (UG) 2026 and UGC NET December 2026, and 4 to 30 KB for UGC NET June 2025. A signature file that was right for one is outside the range of another, and guides that quote one figure for “NTA exams” are wrong for some of them. Always use the range in the bulletin for your own exam and cycle.

Why some of these have a minimum size

A form that sets a range rejects a file that is too small as well as one that is too big. A phone photo is usually megabytes, far over any limit here. A clean signature on white paper goes the other way: it can compress to a few KB, below a 10 KB minimum. The resizer raises the picture’s size first where the notice sets no pixel size, and only if that is not enough does it add empty data to the file, which every viewer ignores. It tells you when it has.

Taking a photograph that passes

The notices that describe the photograph ask for the same few things: a recent picture with about 80% of the frame taken up by your face, ears showing, no mask, against a white or light background in even light. Stand a step away from a plain wall in daylight, hold the phone at eye level, and look straight at the lens. Turn off beauty filters, which change your face and are the usual cause of an unclear result. Take several and pick the sharpest, then frame it in the resizer so your face sits in the middle.

Preparing a signature that survives resizing

Sign in black ink on plain white paper, large enough to fill most of a strip about three times as wide as it is tall. Put the sheet on a flat surface and photograph it from directly above, in daylight, with no shadow of the phone on the page. The resizer finds your signature on the page, crops to it, whitens the paper and darkens the ink, so you can leave the margins. If the result looks faint, raise the contrast.

Checking the file before you upload

On Windows, right-click the file and choose Properties; on a phone, open the file’s details in the Files app. Forms disagree on whether a KB is 1000 or 1024 bytes, so the resizer keeps every file at no more than the maximum counted as 1000 bytes and at least the minimum counted as 1024, which passes either way. If the portal still refuses it, read its message, and check the notice for this year, because the rule may be different from the one you remember.

Railway exams and anything not listed

The Railway Recruitment Boards set different limits in different notices, and their documents could not be read for this page, so there is no railway preset here that could be wrong. Choose “My form” in the resizer, type the width, height and KB range your own application shows, and it makes the file to those limits. The same option works for any exam that is not listed.

Frequently asked questions

Which exam has the smallest signature limit?

Among the notices read here, SSC at 10 to 20 KB and IBPS at 10 to 20 KB. UGC NET in June 2025 had 4 to 30 KB, which has a smaller minimum but a larger maximum.

Do all exams need a photograph file?

No. The SSC notices read here take the photograph through the camera while you fill in the form, and only the signature is uploaded. CUET and IBPS ask for a live photograph in addition to the file.

Where do these numbers come from?

Each was read in the exam body’s own notice or bulletin, and the table names the document and date. Where a document could not be read, the exam is left out rather than guessed.

My exam is not in the table.

Choose “My form” in the resizer and type the limits your form shows. That works for any exam, including the Railway Recruitment Boards, whose limits change from one notice to the next.
