SSC signature resizer, and the live photograph rule

In the SSC CGL, GD, CHSL and MTS notices the application takes your photograph through the camera, so there is no photograph file to upload. The signature is the file you prepare: JPEG or JPG, 10 to 20 KB, about 6.0 by 2.0 cm.

What do you need to upload?

About the photograph: The notice says a candidate does not need a photograph file: the application takes one through the camera while the form is being filled, and a picture of an existing photograph is rejected.

JPG, PNG or WebP. A phone photo is fine.

A photo of the ink on white paper works. It is cropped to the ink and saved as a JPEG of 10–20 KB.

What the SSC notices ask for

Four SSC notices were read, and they give the same two rules. Combined Graduate Level 2026 (F. No. HQ-C11018/1/2026-C-1, published 21 May 2026), Constable (GD) 2026 (F. No. HQ-C-3007/10/2025-C-3, 1 December 2025), Combined Higher Secondary Level 2025 (F. No. HQ-C1102/9/2025-C-1, 23 June 2025) and Multi-Tasking Staff and Havaldar 2025 (F. No. E/15/2025-C-2, 26 June 2025). Read on 20 October 2026.

The photograph is taken live

The notices say a candidate is not required to have an existing photograph. The application captures one while you fill in the form, and you are told to stand or sit before the camera in good light with a plain background, with the camera at eye level, your face fully inside the area the camera shows, neither too close nor too far, and no cap, mask or glasses. A picture taken of a photograph you already have is rejected. The notices also say the photograph should be clear, without a cap or spectacles, with a full frontal view, and that you should check it is as instructed before you submit.

The signature

Upload the scanned signature as JPEG or JPG between 10 and 20 KB, at about 6.0 cm by 2.0 cm. The notices say blurred or miniature signatures are rejected, so a signature that is too small on the page is a real risk. This tool crops a photo of your signature to the ink, whitens the paper, and saves it at that three-to-one shape inside the 10 to 20 KB range, so a signature that fills the strip stays readable.

If you chose Aadhaar authentication

The notices say that applications from candidates who opt for Aadhaar Based Authentication will not be rejected on the ground that the photograph or signature are not as per the prescribed standards, and the CGL notice adds that these candidates will not be required to produce recent colour photographs or an original photo identity proof at the examination venue. They still advise checking the photograph and signature in the preview before you submit.

On exam day

The CHSL 2025 notice says that in addition to the admission certificate it is mandatory to carry at least two recent passport-size colour photographs. Read the equivalent paragraph in the notice for your exam, because the rule for what to carry on the day is separate from what you upload.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to upload a photograph for SSC?

In the CGL 2026, GD 2026, CHSL 2025 and MTS 2025 notices, no: the application captures your photograph through the camera while you fill in the form. A photograph of an existing photograph is rejected.

What is the SSC signature size in KB?

JPEG or JPG, between 10 and 20 KB, with a dimension of about 6.0 cm wide by 2.0 cm high.

Does every SSC exam work this way?

The four notices read for this page do. SSC runs several exams a year with their own notices, so read the one for your exam.

Why was my SSC signature rejected?

The notices give one reason: a blurred or miniature signature. Make the signature large on the page, in black ink on white paper, and check the preview before you submit.
