Convert WebP to PNG
Turn WebP images from the web into universally compatible PNG files. Convert several at once and download them as a ZIP.
JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC — batch supported
iPhone HEIC photos are supported. Photo metadata (EXIF) is not preserved.
When you need PNG
Some older software and print workflows still refuse WebP outright, and PNG is the safest thing to hand them: lossless, universally supported, and transparency intact. That last point matters most — a logo or cut-out saved as WebP keeps its transparent background as a PNG, which a JPG cannot.
Where WebP files come from
Almost always from saving an image off a web page. Browsers and image CDNs switched to WebP because it is meaningfully smaller than both JPG and PNG at the same quality, so a picture that looked like an ordinary photo in the browser arrives on your disk in a format your other software may not open. Nothing is wrong with the file; it is simply newer than the program you are trying to use.
The file will get bigger
Expect the PNG to be several times the size of the WebP it came from, because you are moving from an efficient modern format to a lossless older one. Nothing is being added — the extra bytes are the cost of compatibility. If size matters more than transparency, converting to JPG instead will be far smaller.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert animated WebP?
Only the first frame is exported. Animated WebP is treated as a still image, so an animation becomes a single picture rather than a GIF.
Is any quality lost?
Nothing is lost in this step, because PNG is lossless. But it cannot recover detail the WebP had already discarded, so a heavily compressed WebP produces a large PNG that still looks like a heavily compressed image.
Does transparency survive?
Yes, and this is the main reason to pick PNG over JPG. Transparent areas stay transparent, so a logo drops onto any background cleanly.
