The pages nobody wants to send
Blank sheets that the scanner picked up from the back of a double-sided page, the cover letter that belongs to a different application, an appendix that is not relevant to this recipient, the duplicate that came out of the feeder twice. Removing them makes the document smaller, faster to read and, in the case of the appendix, considerably more discreet.
Check the thumbnails before you save
Working from page numbers alone is where mistakes happen, particularly in a scanned document where the printed numbers do not match the file’s own numbering — a cover sheet is page one in the file and unnumbered on paper, so everything after it is off by one. The thumbnails exist so you can confirm by eye what you are removing rather than trusting arithmetic.
Deleting is not redacting
This is worth being precise about. Removing a page removes the whole page, and that content is genuinely gone from the saved file. But if the sensitive detail is a paragraph on a page you are keeping, deleting pages does not help, and covering it with a black box in most editors does not either — the text usually survives underneath and can be copied straight out. Redaction is a different job and needs a tool built for it.

Can I get a deleted page back?
Not from the saved file, so keep your original until you have checked the result. The download is a new document; the file you started with is untouched, which is your safety net.
Will the file get smaller?
Usually yes, roughly in proportion to what you removed, and dramatically so if the deleted pages were scanned images. If you need it smaller still, run the result through the PDF compressor afterwards.
Does deleting pages break the bookmarks or links?
Internal links that pointed to a deleted page have nowhere left to go, and a table of contents will still list what you removed. Worth a glance at the contents page before sending a long document.
