Why a transparent signature matters

A photographed signature carries the paper with it — a grey or yellowish rectangle that looks obviously pasted on when placed over a document. Removing the background leaves only the ink, so the signature sits on the page as though it were signed there.

Getting the cleanest capture

Sign in dark ink on plain white paper and photograph it straight on in even daylight, avoiding any shadow falling across the page. A flat, evenly lit capture separates far more cleanly than one photographed at an angle under a lamp.

A note on security

Your signature is sensitive: it can be reused on documents you did not authorise. That is precisely why this tool processes it inside your browser and never transmits it. Be careful with any background remover that uploads your file to a server.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add my signature to a PDF afterwards?

Save the transparent PNG produced here, then place it into your document using your PDF editor or word processor and position it over the signature line. Because the background is transparent, the document shows through around the ink.

Is it safe to upload my signature to a background remover?

Generally you should be cautious, because most such tools send your file to their servers. This one does not: the AI runs inside your browser and your signature never leaves your device.

The ink looks faint after removal — what can I do?

That usually means the original photo was low contrast. Re-photograph the signature in brighter, even light using a darker pen, which gives the model a much stronger edge to work from.
