How to slice a long comic into upload-sized strips

  1. 1

    Upload your long strip

Drop your tall vertical comic, for example 800 x 20000 pixels.

  2. 2

    It is cut into strips

The image is cut every 1280 pixels from the top. The cuts are mechanical, so check where they fall before you upload.

  3. 3

    Download the ZIP

You get numbered JPEG strips, each at most 1280 pixels tall and compressed to stay under 2MB where the image allows.

Frequently asked questions

What are the WEBTOON Canvas image limits?

WEBTOON’s guidance for Canvas is images no larger than 800 pixels wide and 1280 pixels tall, up to 2MB per image, as JPG or PNG. Its uploader will also slice and shrink oversized images by itself; cutting them yourself lets you choose the result instead of leaving it to the uploader. Check WEBTOON’s current creator guide before you publish, as the limits can change.

Will it cut through a speech bubble?

It can. Strips are cut at fixed 1280-pixel intervals from the top and nothing is detected in the artwork. If a cut lands in the wrong place, trim the top of your image and run it again so the cuts fall in a different spot.

What if a strip is still over 2MB?

JPEG quality is lowered until the strip fits. A strip that is mostly fine detail may not fit even at low quality, and the result tells you when that happens. Making the image narrower usually helps.

What happens to transparent areas?

Strips are saved as JPEG, which has no transparency, so transparent areas become white.
